Matthew
Kearney

Senior Lecturer. Academic area: Learning Technologies
Matthew Kearney has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Education since
joining UTS in March, 1999. He currently teaches across two programs in
the Faculty. He coordinates the e-learning related subjects in
the BEd (Prim) and BTeach (Sec) programs and is interested in
innovative technology-based learning in K-12 and teacher education
contexts.
His research and development interests are in the area of e-learning and he is a
member of the Faculty's new Designs for Learning research
cluster. He has completed the following funded projects (also see related papers):
1. Developing pedagogy using student-generated digital
video with A/Prof. S. Schuck. Funded by Apple Computers Australia
and UTS Industry Links grant.
2. Teachers as
e-learning designers with 2 Faculty colleagues. Funded by ASCILITE
Grant.
3. Technology-
mediated projects in DET schools with 3 Faculty colleagues. Funded
by Schools Innovative Learning Cooperative (SILC), as part of their
Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology & Maths
(ASISTM) project.
4. Investigating pedagogy using interactive whiteboards
with with A/Prof. S. Schuck. Funded by Centre for Learning Innovation
(CLI), NSW DET & Electroboard.
His PhD thesis focussed on the the design and
use of multimedia supported predict-observe-explain (POE) tasks in
science learning. In 2002,
he contributed to the ICT-based
Learning Designs Project by describing the learning design behind multimedia-based POE tasks,
and also by designing and developing (downloadable) POE e-shells - generic tools that can be used by
educators to build their own multimedia-based POE tasks using a web
page editor.
Matthew is a member
